It mainly deals with ethical fashion and social aspects, those that are often underestimated by those who buy a simple garment or a fashionable accessory. The Clean Clothes Campaign network, through its urgent appeal system, has a track record of campaigning in order to provide remedy in specific instances of human rights violations in garment supply chains.1 Typically, these violations occur in a context characterized by an absence of (effective) judicial and non-judicial grievance mechanisms. The Clean Clothes Campaign Network works to structurally improve working conditions and support the empowerment of manufacturing workers in global garment and sportswear supply chains so that governments protect employment rights and human rights, companies respect these rights and workers have access to remedy for violations of these rights. This metric is part of a Clean Clothes Campaign project to investigate wages in apparel supply chains. The project, Filling the Gap: Achieving Living Wages through improved transparency, is funded by the European Commission and comprises research, campaigning, capacity building and advocacy around an innovative Transparency Tool.
